Ways to Cope with Stress

Here are a few ways that might be able to help you deal with stress.

#1 Do some advanced or adult coloring books.

In my opinion, this is a very good way of reducing stress and anger because you could sit and color for hours depending on how much time you have. Even if you aren’t into art, you still might enjoy this. There are hundreds of different coloring books that you could try out if you don’t like one. That also means that there are thousands of different designs to color and you can be creative with every single one of them. If this doesn’t work, then you can try some other ways listed here.

#2 Learn how to meditate.

Meditation is defined as a practice where someone uses a technique, such as focusing their mind on a particular object, thought, or activity, to achieve a mentally clear and calm state. Meditating can be difficult but it definitely helps you out a lot. Meditation takes practice and you have to be patient with yourself while doing it. If you're not quite sure how it works, there are a few apps that can teach you how and do the process with you. All you really need to do to find them is search up meditation apps.

#3 Think about what you can do to get rid of some of the stress in your life.

Make a plan of how you can try to block out all the negativity and stress in your life. These things can include people, for example, there may be friends who are bad influences and that you need to get rid of. No, I don’t mean violently, I mean just stop talking or hanging out with them. However, don’t be mean when doing this because even though you may not like them that much, you don’t want to make them feel bad.

#4 Enroll in yoga classes or other classes that you can use to not only build skills but meet new people who might have similar interests.

Enrolling in classes can help you meet a new group of people that might be more similar to you than you think. This is an especially good idea if you are new to a particular area or new in your school. Surrounding yourself with new people would be good because if you don’t have many good people in your life you might need them more than you think. You might need some people to talk to when you're stressed or upset and you guys can get through it together. I’m not saying you have to go and do this, but if you're a looking to meet more people than this would be good.

#5 Exercise in order to make you work hard to achieve a goal and take your mind off of things.

Exercising is a good way for many people to get out anger, frustration, sadness, and stress. Exercising cannot only be mentally good for you but physically good as well. It builds up your muscles, endurance, and heart and there are many different exercises you can do that will keep you busy. Also, depending on how long you exercise it will take your mind off of things even longer. For example, when I am overwhelmed or mad, I exercise and it makes me feel a lot better.

#6 Set goals for yourself, make yourself proud by working towards goals when you are stressed.

If you are feeling unmotivated and feeling like you can’t accomplish much, then set a couple goals for yourself that you can work towards. For example, you could make a goal that is going to the gym four times a week or something like that. Then, once you complete the goal you will feel accomplished and be motivated to work towards more. Setting goals can take your mind off the stress for a bit and you will be focused on trying to accomplish the goal. I know a few other people who use this technique to help them as well.

#7 Go out/hang out with friends and family to take your mind off the stress and have fun with people.

Hanging out with friends and family will take you away from the stress that you might have at work, school, home, etc. You will be able to have fun with your friends for a few hours and feel like you have gone to a completely different place.

#8 Write about it in a journal to just get it off your shoulders.

Writing about your issues is pretty much like a diary and just like diaries, it helps you relieve some of your stress without sharing your problems right away. A diary is a place where you can write about all your issues or just what happened in your day. Diaries are especially helpful if you don’t trust people enough to tell them all your problems.

#9 Have a support system such as an animal or people.

Having good people and things around you can help you greatly with stress. First of all, sometimes you just need to rant to your friend or family and you will feel a lot better. It would be good to keep talking to those people every time you feel extra stressed out and just get everything off your chest for a little bit. Also, having a support animal with you can help you wind down and relax. Especially dogs, if you like dogs then those are good support animals. I have my bunny and my dog as support animals because I can sit there and pet them and it will make me feel better.

#10 Listen to music once in a while.

Listening to music can be very calming for some people because it helps you just focus on what you are listening to rather than your problems. Listening to music can motivate you too, especially if it is happy and pumped music. I listen to music myself when I get stressed about school or other things and it will calm me down for a bit. I use music to my advantage because it motivates me to get my homework and projects done faster, instead of putting it off like I usually do.

I hope you will be able to use some of these to get some unneeded stress out of your life and that if anything is happening, I hope it gets better for you and everyone involved in it.
