Our bodies are fragile ecosystems, which we must protect and maintain general health in, in every possible way, in order to improve the quality of our lives. An important cause of good functioning of the body is the hormonal balance.
So we know for sure that hormones should be kept in balance. But how do we do that? You may not know it, but the correct nutrition here, is one of the most simple, and effective, methods of keeping hormones balanced.
For the most famous male hormone, testosterone, function does not only lie in muscle gain. While testosterone affects the increase of bone and muscle strength, it is also crucial for the development of the male body during puberty. The organism of an adult man needs testosterone to get sperm, which, in turn, directly affects sexual desire and energy, according to data from the Hormone Health Network.
What to do: you should eat soy products (such as edamame and tofu), grapes, tuna, pomegranate, and eggs. At the same time, white flour and alcohol are able to decrease testosterone levels in the human body.
Estrogen is the main female hormone, and it is known for its ability to regulate the menstrual cycle and affect breast growth. Also, estrogen protects bones in women, and in men. Bringing the weight back to normal will help to maintain the necessary level of estrogen, and in the case of a lack of weight, the amount of estrogen in the body may decrease. Livestrong experts note that a lack of estrogen in the case of an excess of testosterone in the long term can lead to breast cancer.
What to do: you should eat whole grains, soybeans, fresh fruits and vegetables (especially broccoli and cauliflower).
This hormone is associated with stress, provides our body with energy in stressful situations, opening the airways, and pumping blood to the most important muscles at the moment; increasing endurance in general. But if adrenaline is too high, it may lead to dangerous and serious consequences for the health. Hormone Health Network experts warn that excess stress hormone can cause dizziness, irritability, and other symptoms of anxiety. At the same time, control of adrenaline is the best way to cope with stress, and even panic attacks.
What to do: You need to do sports. It has also been proven that attentiveness exercises are able to ease anxiety, because your concentration at the moment will be focused on something else.
Cortisol is another hormone which is directly related to stress. During stressful situations, this hormone maintains the balance of body fluids and stabilizes blood pressure. Cortisol also affects libido, immunity, and digestion. But chronic high cortisol levels can reduce the immune system, and libido, and increase blood pressure. It is also able to cause acne and obesity.
What to do: Try to learn to manage your stresses using the same methods in the case of adrenaline.
In certain quantities, physical exercises can be good for regulation of insulin levels, especially for people suffering from diabetes. That is because it increases the body's insulin sensitivity. Insulin regulates the level of sugar, and in this case, this hormone will reduce it. However, diabetics should be very attentive: intensive physical exercises can lead to hypoglycemia–the process in which the blood sugar level drops too low.
What to do: before going to the gym, you should take care of the right snack with a balanced amount of proteins, fats, and complex carbohydrates. Make sure to eat it at least one hour before starting your training for best results.
