Some people will do anything to sleep, myself included. From natural remedies and oils to meditation and medication, there are hundreds of options promising sleep but delivering very little. So, it only makes sense with the plethora of technology and information today that people are now using apps to help them get the zzz’s they need. I mean let’s be honest, if you can track your movement, weight, and food intake while finding love through social media, then you should be able to use your phone or tablet to assist you with sleeping.
Now, of course, there isn’t one sleep app out there for everyone. Some suffer from falling asleep and staying asleep while others never truly know how much quality sleep they are getting at night. If you can weed out the dozens of sleep apps that are simple sound machines and fancy alarm clocks, you may find one that is smart enough to actually make a difference. Here are few of the most popular and successful apps to help you sleep better.
Sleep Cycle is one of a few successful apps to help you sleep better. It gathers data throughout the night by placing your phone under your pillow. That information is then used to wake you up at the right time of your sleep cycle leaving you less groggy. Pretty cool if you ask me. You can also track your sleep patterns and detect snoring. This would be the perfect choice for someone who has a hard time waking up, stays groggy for an extended time after waking up, and for those curious as to how restful of a sleep they are getting.
Sleep Genius is most likely named after those who founded it, seeing as the information used to create it was originally from NASA to help astronauts sleep. AKA geniuses! Now, I don’t know about you, but NASA could pretty much tell me to listen to a banana and I would try it. This is among one of the successful apps to help you sleep better. It was designed using neurosensory algorithms to create sounds that guide your brain through a complete sleep cycle. Basically, meditation through sound while your sleeping. This is a good option for those who suffer from sleep problems and also believe science and math can provide them with a better night’s sleep.
Another one of the best apps to help you sleep better involves meditation, however unlike most which demand at least 20 minutes of your time, Simply Being has sessions ranging from 5 minutes to 30. So, if you are in need of a midday nap and need a little assistance, this can provide just the sound and words in the time you have. You can also choose music or sounds to play with the voice and have the sounds continue even after the speaking portion has ended, which I find to be a nice addition.
Relax & Sleep Well
Relax & Sleep Well is one of those apps to help you sleep better that not only encourages healthy sleep but also aids people who suffer from anxiety, stress, and insomnia. It uses hypnotherapy and meditation through voice recordings with soothing colors which help set a peaceful zone. If you have an open mind and can block out some time for yourself with no distractions, this may be worth checking out. Glenn Harrold who created this app has over 20 years of hypnotherapy experience, so if anyone can talk to you to a better sleep, it’s most likely him.
Personally, I don’t know what I would do without the Relax Melodies sleep and sound app, one of the best apps to help you sleep better. It has had a home on every device in my household for the last three years and is my sound machine nightly. What separates this sound app from others is that it gives you the freedom to create sounds that are soothing to you rather than some prerecorded mix. You can even adjust each sound volume individually. For instance, my son loves the white noise with rain in the background. With over 50 sounds which include nature, melodies, even lullabies, and calming voices, there really is something for everyone. While I don’t think this or any sound machine can help too much with night awakenings, I know from personal experience it can help with the falling asleep process.
